Phuthuma’s energy and perseverance drives the group and management team.

During his nine year tenure as CEO of MTN (the sixth largest company on the JSE), MTN’s market capitalisation grew from R20 Billion to well over R250 Billion.

He holds a BSc Civil Engineering (Ohio State) and a Master of Business Administration (Atlanta).

Phuthuma is currently the Non Executive Chairman at MTN Group, with other past directorships including the Nedbank Group, BP PLC, Anglo American PLC, Old Mutual SA, Johnnic Holdings, Bidvest Group and Alexander Forbes.
