Jacko Maree

Jacko stepped down as Group Chief Executive of Standard Bank in March 2013 after more than 13 years at the helm of Africa’s largest bank which operates in 18 countries on the continent.

After a cooling off period of almost 4 years, he was appointed non-executive Deputy Chairman of Standard Bank in November 2016.  He is also non-executive Chairman of Liberty Holdings Limited, Standard Bank’s listed life insurance and asset management subsidiary.

Jacko is a former Deputy Chairman of Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA).  He is also a former Vice President of Business Unity South Africa (BUSA)

Jacko is a member of the International Advisory Council of China Investment Corporation (CIC) and a former member of board of the Institute of International Finance and the International Monetary Conference.

After obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce (cum laude) degree from Stellenbosch University he studied at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar where he graduated in 1980 with a first-class M.A. degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics.
